      A symbolic and heavy sadness lies over this painting - The Cemetery Gate (The Churchyard). At an exhibition mounted by the Bremer Kunst-Verein in 1833, the painting bore the title Priessnitz Churchyard near Dresden. Friedrich and Dahl are known to have made drawings of this cemetery in 1824.
