Gerome arrived on the scene about 1840. Delaroche influenced Gerome's style. He advocated the use of Academic training shaped by the influence of Davids Neo Classical style... During this very important period Gerome was to formulate a manor that was based on the mastery of minute detail interdispersed with the desired elements of historical accuracy. King Candaules is a fine example of Gerome's mastery.

The painting is fantastic, just having trouble deciding where to hang it as it looks good everywhere. The painting was very well packaged and arrived in good time. I was concerned that it was coming from quite a long way away and might get damaged but I will have no concerns again. I love the painting so much, I am looking at purchasing another.
