      Jean Leon Gerome, Alexander Cabnel and William Bouguereau were upholders of the Academic tradition in France. They showed opposition to Impressionism and other Modern styles. Gerome was made a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1867, the year when this painting - " Cairene Horse Dealer" was finished. These honors were given to academicians who were noted to produce art subjects with moralistic tones. The paintings were produced using a highly polished style of rendering. Ironically Gerome’s Academie produced students that later excelled in the Academic and Impressionist styles.

Beautiful item ! exactly the way it was pictured and it is even more impressive than any picture posted. You really cannot appreciate this without seeing it in person. The paint literally leaps off the canvas and provides a very dynamic experience.
