      Soulacroix began his education as a sculptor under Etienne Jules Ramey (1796-1852). These studies helped Soulacroix develop a superior understanding of the human figure, which he would later incorporated into his oil painting. Soulacroix furthered his studies as a sculptor with Augustin-Alexander Dumont (1801-1884).
