Although Ivan Aivazovsky did occasionally dabble in the more traditional art forms of landscapes and portraiture, the bulk of his output was seascapes. Aivazovsky was a master at realistically depicting water and the sea in its many forms: calm, choppy, stormy, at night, as rain, as foam on waves, windblown, etc.
